OH LORD, PLEASE DON'T LET ME BE MISUNDERSTOOD !
Another city, another day; if life was good for anything, it was repetition. After spending enough time on the road the lines between one place and another become thin, it’s almost as though you’re stuck in some sort of loop-hole, see enough strange faces and they all start to become familiar.
Young Noah Kin was never the optimistic sort; to him the glass was half empty, and there really was no hope of refilling it. He never quite looked forward to seeing new places or revisiting old haunts, they were all the same in the end. If there was one thing that kept the stray devoto’s spirits up, it was food. For a man as thin as Noah, it would be hard to guess he had the appetite of a freight-train, but looks could be deceiving.
Damn I’m so hungry… The youth’s stomach gave an unhappy lurch as he waded through the bustling crowd that stuffed the market-place. Breaking away from the masses, Noah leaned back against a nearby lamppost, and watched the snaking throngs pass by. With all the strange scents commingling in this place, it was difficult to pick out the one he was after. Letting out a soft sigh, the youth examined the dull gray sky; the sun was but a tiny glowing dot behind the clouds, far from picturesque.
“E-excuse me s-sir…” The soft voice was barley audible against the constant murmur of the area. Noah followed the sound to the speaker, and found himself looking down upon a rather pathetic little girl who had a strange piece of paper clasped to her chest. The boy quirked his brows at the stranger, but chose to stay quiet. “Have you seen my dog?” The paper the girl had been holding turned out to be a picture; she thrust the photo forward, her eyes growing large with desperation.
Noah’s eyes flashed with recognition as he gave the picture a quick look-over. Hey, isn’t that the bastard who… the youth rubbed his arm, beneath the material of his dark coat-sleeve a rather pesky bite-wound lay. “No kid, can’t say I have…” Noah muttered, hoping his lie wasn't too obvious to the girl. Lucky for him, the child was too young to pick up on such things, she simply nodded with a sniff and shuffled on to the next person.
Phew. Noah ran a hand through his unruly hair as he watched the girl go. Guess she’ll be getting a new dog soon.
