The day had ended and the night had come, the bright moon hung low as the many million stars danced around it. Only a single cloud moved across the sky; taking is sweet time to pass over the moon. For about five minutes the night was completely black, only the wind's whispers could be heard. But in this small expanse of time, a small feline approached on the horizon. The creature went steady and with purpose; straight for the lonesome barn. Her belly was tight with hunger, and she could smell all the fresh, warm scents of the many mice that had taken shelter in that barn. At first the structure appeared shut-off to the outside world; but as Kai approached, she noticed a small crack where a cat-sized creature could fit through. Just purrfect, she thought as she slipped into the barn. Wow, that was a really lame pun.
The sweet rodent scent wafted toward her, causing her to lick her muzzle. For Kai, this was like the feast of ages, well, maybe not quite, but hell, it was food. Everything else was lost to the feline as she crouched down and approached a small group of feeding rodents. Slowly she placed each paw, careful not to make a sound that would alert her prey to her presence. Then she froze, lipid orbs glued to one rather plump mouse, Come here little morsel. In three small hops, the mouse was just a few inches from the hunter, its fate was now sealed. Her bobbed tail wagged slightly, then she pounced. Razor-sharp claws dug into the mouse's flesh as her fangs made their way toward the thing's throat. Just like that, its life was now over.
Kai's prize swung limply in her jaws as she walked over to a hay-covered corner and sat down. It didn't take long for the famished cat to finish off every last piece of the mouse. With her belly now satisfied, she let out a contented sigh. Then she phased into her human form, "That was really good, but it would of gone better with some milk." Standing up, she walked around a little to get use to being in this form again. It had been a few days since Kai was in this form, and it always took some getting use to. "Why do humans have to be so un-flexible?" she mumbled under her breath as she stretched her limbs.
